Meet the Candidate!

Shelia Edwards is a community advocate, journalist, business owner, and the Democratic nominee for Georgia Public Service Commission, District 5. She is running to stop endless utility rate hikes, protect consumers, and hold monopoly utility companies accountable by putting "People Before Profits".

With more than 35 years of leadership experience in corporate America and at the local, state, and federal levels, Shelia has built a reputation as a results-driven public servant and advocate for Georgia families and businesses. Her career in government, communications, public policy, and community engagement has been defined by bringing people together, solving complex problems, and delivering meaningful results.

Early in her career, Shelia worked at Kennedy Space Center for engineering giant Lockheed Space Operations, supporting NASA's Space Shuttle Program. Working alongside NASA engineers and technical professionals in one of the nation's most complex and highly regulated environments gave her firsthand experience managing technical information, coordinating across multidisciplinary teams, and understanding the importance of safety, accountability, precision, and sound decision-making. Those experiences provide a strong foundation for evaluating the complex engineering, financial, and infrastructure issues that come before the Georgia Public Service Commission.

Shelia has also served in senior leadership roles within Georgia's Democratic infrastructure, including as Interim Executive Director of the Georgia House Democratic Caucus, where she helped strengthen the Democratic message, supported the successful re-election of incumbents, recruited and assisted new candidates, and expanded voter engagement across the state.

In both 2022 and 2026, Democratic voters chose Shelia Edwards to be their nominee for the Georgia Public Service Commission. Although the 2022 election was halted before voters could finish the job, the need for change has only grown as utility bills have continued to rise. Shelia is running again because Georgians deserve a Public Service Commission that works for them—not monopoly utilities. This time, she's ready to finish the job by becoming the critical third vote that puts People Before Profits.  

As Georgia's next Public Service Commissioner, Shelia will bring independent leadership and a consumer-first approach to the Commission. She is committed to fighting for affordable utility rates, increasing transparency and accountability, and ensuring that large energy users—including data centers—pay their fair share instead of shifting those costs onto Georgia families and small businesses.

Shelia is running to become the critical third vote that will restore the Public Service Commission's focus to its core mission: protecting consumers, holding monopoly utilities accountable, and serving the people of Georgia—not special interests.
